Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

“What you're supposed to do when you don't like a thing is change it. If you can't change it, change the way you think about it” - Maya Angelou

Easier said than done, huh?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is here to help! This type of therapy teaches us to identify and challenge uncontrollable thinking traps and false core believes about ourselves, others, and situations. It also uses behavioral experiments (with a therapist’s support - don’t worry!) to change behaviors we’ve learned to rely on that may be contributing to mental health symptoms. It teaches skills to find new ways of coping and change unhelpful thinking and behaviors that impact our emotions.

So really, it’s teaching you how to be your own therapist!

The basis of CBT is the interaction between our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. They’re all connected and when one changes for the better, the others will follow!

CBT focuses on moving forward with your life with better ways of coping. So this means you won’t be spending years on a therapist’s couch analyzing your past - that’s not where you’re going - you want to move on from feeling this way!
